(17/6/26) The Joseph Ratzinger – Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation remembers with deep emotion and profound gratitude Cardinal Camillo Ruini, president of its Scientific Committee from 2010 to 2015, at the behest of Benedict XVI, for his undoubted theological qualities.
His ecclesial service was always characterized by a special acumen, which allowed him to deeply understand the world around him.
Cardinal Vicar of the Pope for the Diocese of Rome and President of the Italian Episcopal Conference, he did not shy away from cultural engagement with his time, always knowing how to take and hold a stand according to the Gospel even in the most difficult moments. It is no coincidence that his episcopal motto was "Veritas liberabit nos."
His zeal for the Church accompanied him until his final days. Our prayers are with him.
