Ratzinger and Christian Europe, study day in Bydgoszcz

(1/4/16) “The Christian idea of Europe and Poland according to Joseph Ratzinger/ Benedict XVI’s teachings” is the topic of the International Conference that will be held on 6th April at the Kujawy and Pomorze University of Bydgoszcz, Poland, where the Ratzinger Study Centre was inaugurated in 2012.

The Study Day will start in the morning with a plenary session, after the greetings of the academic and urban institutions and of Msgr. Wojciecha Polaka, bishop of Gniezno and primate of Poland and the introduction of Father Mariusz Kuciński, director of the Ratzinger Study Centre. The Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło and cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, already secretary of the Vatican State, will also attend the Conference and report on the following topic: “From Pope Benedict XVI to Pope Francis. Continuity and development of the pastoral and diplomatic action.”

The following speakers of the Conference will be: Christian Schaller, head of the Papst Benedikt XVI Institute of Regensburg and Ratzinger Prize 2013, who will report on “The modernity of a rational faith. Joseph Ratzinger/Benedict XVI and the doubts of the present era”, Grzegorz Kucharczyk, member of the Polish Science Academy, on “Europe and the crisis in the teachings of cardinal Joseph Ratzinger/ Benedict XVI”, Msgr. Waldemar Chrostowski, from the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw, Ratzinger prize 2014, on “Europe and Christianity – the Biblical perspective”.

In the afternoon, there will be thematic sessions about the theological, philosophical and economic fields and about “State and Law”; “Entirety and identity - the way to the personal development”; “Culture and education – the joint effort in the dialogue”; “Education and the ethics of help”.
