GRANTS

Due to the many requests received by the Foundation, during the meeting on 18th March 2014 the Board of Directors decided that:

  1. A maximum of 5 grants will be assigned every year;
  2. The grant is assigned to Ph.D candidates in Theology, Patristics and Holy Scriptures;
  3. Every candidate must enclose a cover letter from a supervisor and an outline of their doctoral thesis approved by the Faculty Board of the Ph.D certificate;
  4. Every candidate must also provide the title and final mark of his degree thesis;
  5. The value of each grant is 10,000 Euros per year for no more than two years.
  6. A special attention from the Examination Board will be reserved to the works whose themes regard the theological production of Joseph Ratzinger – Benedict XVI.

● Applications for grants will have to be delivered to the seat of the Joseph Ratzinger –Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation (Via della Conciliazione, 1 – 00120 Città del Vaticano) by March.

● The officers of the Foundation will examine the applications and notify applicants of the outcome by July.

● The first instalment of the grants will be delivered by 15th September.

● In order to receive the second instalment of the grants, applicants will have to transmit a scientific report written by their supervisors.

● Applicants will also have to send a scientific article – published in the current year – by June. The articles will be published on the “Presentations” section of the website.

In July 2014 the Foundation received a copy of the thesis by Joseph Ekiru Ekomwa – the first student who received a grant from the Joseph Ratzinger-Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation. The title of the thesis is Church as ‘mixed body’ and as ‘family of God’: integrating the ecclesiologies of Augustine of Hippo and the bishops of Africa in their post-Vatican II Synodsand it was discussed at the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
