LETTER FROM BENEDICT XVI ON THE INNER CONTINUITY WITH POPE FRANCIS

Francesco_BXVI

(12/3/18) “I applaud this initiative, it contradicts the foolish prejudice of those who see Pope Francis as someone who lacks a particular theological and philosophical formation, while I would have been solely a theorist of theology with little understanding of the concrete lives of today’s Christian”.

It is a part of the letter Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI wrote, that was published by Msgr. Dario Edoardo Viganò, prefect of the Vatican Secretariat for Communication. He received it on the occasion of the presentation of the collection of books “La Teologia di Papa Francesco”, held today in Rome at the Marconi Hall of Palazzo Pio. It is a collection of 11 books, published by the Vatican Publishing House.

“The small volumes – Benedict XVI added – show rightly that Pope Francis is a man of profound philosophical and theological formation, and therefore they help to see the inner continuity between the two pontificates, even with all the differences in style and temperament”.
