THE DEATH OF JOAQUÍN NAVARRO-VALLS

(6/7/17) The Spanish reporter Joaquín Navarro-Valls, 80 years old, died yesterday in Rome. He was director of the Press Room of the Holy See from 1984 to 2006 and he worked during John Paul II’s and at the beginning of Pope Benedict XVI’s pontificate . On 11th July 2006 Benedict had called the jesuit father Federico Lombardi to succeed him. Lombardi is the current president of the Joseph Ratzinger - Benedict XVI Vatican Foundation.

The funerals will be celebrated at the Roman Basilica of Sant'Eugenio (viale delle Belle Arti, 10) on Friday, 7th  July at 11 by the Vicar general of the prelacy of Opus Dei, Msgr. Mariano Fazio. Today at 4 p.m. the mortuary chapel will  open at the sacristy of the same Basilica.
