Over the years many scholars have expressed a keen interest in creating an organization with the purpose of promoting the publication, distribution and study of the writings of former university professor Joseph Ratzinger. In response to this request, on 1 March 2010, the Holy Father Benedict XVI approved the creation of "The Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) Vatican Foundation". The official establishment of the Foundation ensures the proper juridical nature it requires according to the Code of Canon Law and the Fundamental Law of Vatican City State.
The purpose of "The Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) Vatican Foundation" is described in article 2 of the Statutes summarized below:
The recognition of scholars distinguished for their unique contributions to scholarly research is intended as a way to express gratitude, according to the felicitous expression of Pope Benedict XVI, for "a theology which out of love wants to know the beloved better". The Pope has encouraged theologians to "have courage" and expressed his "profound gratitude" since they help people understand that "the Lord gave us the Church as a living body, with its hierarchy of Bishops in communion with the Pope".
Those who wish to contribute the work of the Foundation can make a donation by check in the name of "The Joseph Ratzinger (Benedict XVI) Vatican Foundation".
